Frequently Asked Questions

CUSTOM ARTWORK

We can create completely custom vector art for you from scratch with the help of our designers. Please contact us regarding your custom project. Design fees are separate from the cost of cutting the artwork.

During the design process, you will have a consultation with our designer where the initial concept will be created. Through the entire process, you will have access to proofs to make sure you are 100% happy with the concept before we do any cutting. Our designers can offer suggestions as well as provide you with budget friendly ideas to help bring your dream to reality.

QUOTING READY-MADE ARTWORK OR DIMENSIONAL DRAWINGS

To avoid additional design fees, as mentioned above;

Please provide us with a drawing including your material specifications (material type and thickness) and requested dimensions.

We can cut and quote vector or silhouette artwork immediately in the following formats (.jpg, .png, .ai, .dxf, .svg, or .pdf) if it follows this design criteria:

  • No floating pieces that will fall away
  • No features thinner than the material being cut (example 1/8″ min. thick line to be cut from 1/8″ plate)
  • No cut lines thinner than the material being cut (example min. 1/8″ slots thickness in 1/8″ plate)
  • No holes smaller than the material being cut (example min. 1/8″ diameter holes in 1/8″ plate)

Artwork that is completely joined and with features no thinner or smaller than the material being used is called cut-ready artwork.

If the artwork/drawing is unusable, the designer will make suggestions for you at no cost. If you have any additional questions about our design and quoting process feel free to ask!

MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS

We can cut anything from steel, aluminum or stainless steel with no minimum order! We can cut 22 gauge to 0.750” thick steel and up to 0.500” thick aluminum. Thicker materials are possible with our other services. Please contact us directly with a drawing and order quantity.

TOLERANCES

Tolerances within 0.020” are typical, mechanical components such as custom wrenches, flanges and brackets can be cut very close to your provided drawings. Higher tolerances are achievable by machined components. Please contact us directly if you require this service.

POWDER COATING

We offer the option to finish our metal art with powder coat. Powder coating is a type of coating that is applied as a dry powder and cured in an oven at 400 degrees. Powder coat is extremely durable, offers resistance to corrosion, and does not emit any VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds)

We offer over 50 different colors of powder coat as well as clear coats and patina finishes. You can see many of our colors of powder coat on display on our shop page and our Instagram (@emetalworks). If there is a certain color in particular that you would like or that is not an option on one of our items, please contact us directly.

We can order in specific colors that we do not stock from Prismatic Powders for an additional fee of $40.00.

POWDER COAT MAINTENANCE

Powder coatings exposed to the weather have the potential to degrade over time. Maintenance is essential to combat the effects of the elements when finished parts are exposed to the outdoor elements.

There are a few simple tricks to maintaining the life of your outdoor powder coated parts or art:

  • Remove built-up dirt and grime periodically
  • Do not use harsh chemical cleaners (ex. Brake cleaner, de-greasers, aluminum mag wheel cleaner, acetone, marine clean, etc) Instead you can use a mild detergent such as dish washing soap and water or cleaners that are specifically formulated for use on powder coat.
  • Dust off and dry your parts with a soft microfiber cloth. Do not use rough or scratchy cloths or rags which may cause fine scratches in the coating.

HARDWARE AND MOUNTING OPTIONS

Our two standard methods of hanging our artwork are bolt-holes or hangers. In our larger pieces with multiple hangings, our bolt-holes or hangers are spaced approximately 16” apart to line up with the studs in your wall.

Our artwork can be hung with wood screws or typical 75lb drywall anchors if not being mounted to a stud in your wall.

If you require additional mounting, mounting in a specific area, or a special type of hardware please contact us.
